English Proficiency Requirements to Study in Canada

If you want to study abroad in Canada, you will have to show language proficiency scores, for which you must take tests like the PTE, TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo English Test, etc.

TOEFL –

All the institutes in Canada accept this test, and you need to have a score between 80-100 to get into a Canadian university.

IELTS –

IELTS is one of the most common English proficiency tests accepted globally. For Canadian universities, you will need a minimum of 6.0 IELTS score. But many universities have upgraded the minimum score to 6.5. So, it is better you target for a straight 7.

CAEL –

CAEL is another common English proficiency test accepted by Canadian universities. The minimum score required for admission to most institutes is 8.

  • A minimum of 237-250 TOEFL CBT; this may again vary from course to course

Postgraduate courses in Canada usually take 1 to 2 years.

The significant criteria for these courses are–

  • Full-time working experience, most preferably of 2-3 years
  • Minimum 70% average score in a four-year Bachelor's degree program
  • A minimum of 580-600 score in the GMAT
  • A minimum of 580-600 TOEFL PBT; this may again vary from course to course
  • A minimum of 237-250 TOEFL CBT; this may again vary from course to course
  • 5 IELTS exam score; this might differ for different institutions

 

Requirements for Diploma courses in Canada

  • Minimum of 60% scores in the 12thgrade
  • A minimum of 550 TOEFL PBT; this may again vary from course to course
  • A minimum of 213 TOEFL CBT; this may again vary from course to course
  • 5 IELTS score; this might again differ for different institution

 

Requirements to Apply for a Student Visa in Canada

A student visa or, as you may say it, a study permit for Canada is official paperwork issued by IRCC Canada. This permit allows the candidate to study in the country for a limited time.

The eligibility criteria for Canadian study permits are as follows –

  • Candidate must be registered at a DLI
  • They must be a citizen who abides by the law and must not have any trace of criminal records
  • Students have to confirm before the immigration officer that they will leave the country once their official duration there ends
