How To Make Your Family Move Stress-Free

It was exciting when you were looking for a place to live, but the task of moving can be incredibly stressful. This is especially true if you don’t have a plan in place. Moving without a plan is just asking for your life to be hard for no reason.

Luckily, this article provides you with a moving plan. It at least gives you a place to start. Keep reading to find out how to make your family move less stressful.

Give Yourself Plenty of Time to Move

It’s understandable that you don’t want to pay for two places at one time. Less overlap means less money spent. However, you’ll need an ample amount of time to move so that you don’t have to rush at the last minute.

Rushing leads to mistakes and mistakes lead to stress. At a minimum, give yourself two weeks. If you don’t want to overlap rent/mortgages, rent a storage unit a month or two before your move to put your boxes in until you’re ready to move into the new place. This way you can do a little at a time and feel less pressured.

Get Rid of Unnecessary Stuff Before You Move

Most people have a plethora of items in their homes that they don’t want. You may have an attic full of unwanted items collected over the years. Perhaps you plan to buy new furniture for your new place. Maybe there are a ton of clothes that you can no longer fit.

There is no need to pack things that you don’t want or need in your new place. That’s wasting energy and supplies. The less you must pack, the less hassle moving will be. Try having a yard sale or donating your unwanted items to charity. Make sure you do this well before your move date so you don’t have to rush.

Arrange for Transport of Your Vehicles

If you’re moving a long distance, it will probably be easier to arrange for your personal vehicles to be transported rather than having a driver for each vehicle. One reason for this is so all the drivers can take turns driving, giving each person an ample amount of time for rest. Another reason is you don’t want to pay for gas for the moving van plus all of your vehicles. If you need a third reason, why put all those extra miles on your vehicles?

Arranging vehicle transport is easy. One of the easiest ways is to attach it to the back of the moving van. However, this will only work for one vehicle. If you have smaller personal vehicles, this is even easier. For example, if you need motorcycle transport, you could simply have it delivered.

Take Care of Yourself Before and After the Move

Unless you’ve hired a moving crew, moving requires a lot of physical exertion. Even if you’re just driving the moving truck, long driving trips require a lot of focus and energy. You don’t have to be ripped to get through moving, but you should at least be well-rested and energised with the right nutrients by eating right.

If you don’t work out already, start working out a few weeks before your moving date. This will help you build up stamina and strength. Eat healthily and stay away from fast foods that will make you feel sluggish. You could even go as far as having a spa day to relax as much as possible. The more energised and healthier you are, the more the stress of moving will melt away.

Giving yourself plenty of time to get it done is the most important bit of advice out of all of it. Time is the one thing on the list you can’t control. You don’t get more of it, you don’t get less of it, and you can’t speed it up or slow it down. Therefore, you must make the most of it while you have it.

Finding a new place and living in a new place is exciting. It’s the middle part – moving – that can be stressful. If you don’t have a plan in place, you can be sure you’ll be stressed. Moving doesn’t have to be hard if you simply follow the advice in this article. You’ll be glad you did.
